Description

Expert-approved veterinary food

A science-based, grain free diet to support pooches & mutts with acute intestinal absorptive disorders, as compensation during maldigestion. The recipe can be used during periods of recovery from acute diarrhoea, offering a delicious, wholesome option that works hard to get them on the mend.

This recipe provides all the active ingredients and specifications of a prescription dog food, with the unique benefit of a high-quality, grain free base. Because when your dog needs to move to a veterinary food, they should also keep getting the best nutrition (and taste) they can.

Tasty Herring brings an abundance of flavour, while delivering easily absorbed nutrients and beneficial fatty acids. This helps to soothe the gut and maintain nutrient balance, supporting recovery when digestive function is compromised.

Other vet-recommended ingredients include:

- Hydrolysed Salmon which provides gentle, nutrient-rich protein and essential omega-3s, that help calm intestinal inflammation and promote efficient nutrient absorption. Hydrolysed Salmon is easier to digest and less likely to trigger sensitivities, making it ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

- Apple to provide natural fibre and polyphenols that help stabilise digestion, support beneficial gut bacteria, and aid recovery when nutrient absorption is disrupted.

- Psyllium Husk & Seeds which supply soluble fibre that helps regulate bowel movements, support healthy gut microbiota, and assist nutrient absorption during digestive stress.

- Sodium & Potassium to help maintain optimal fluid balance and electrolyte levels in the gut, supporting proper digestive function and nutrient absorption during periods of intestinal stress.

- Prebiotics to provide fermentable fibres that nourish beneficial gut bacteria, promoting a balanced microbiome and supporting nutrient absorption when digestive function is compromised.

- Postbiotics to deliver bioactive compounds that help reinforce the gut barrier, modulate inflammation, and support nutrient absorption during digestive disturbances.

Science their stomach (and tastebuds) can trust.

This meal is grain free and puppy-friendly.

What is the best diet for dogs with gastrointestinal issues?

A gastrointestinal food is one that supports a dog’s digestive health when they are experiencing a gastrointestinal disorder. This can include a bout of diarrhoea or bloating, or it could be the case of a dog with a chronic underlying medical issue such as a malabsorption disorder. This is also an appropriate diet for patients with chronic GI disorders such as EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency), IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth).

These foods are highly digestible and provide optimal nutrition, to support the gut cells as they heal. The better gastrointestinal foods will contain both pre and probiotics, to ensure a healthy colony of bacteria is retained within the gut. Probiotics have also been proven to shorten the duration of acute bouts of diarrhoea, so your pooch is feeling better sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about our food, subscriptions, or how to get started? Then check out our most asked questions here.
Can I feed this diet to my puppy?

This food is suitable from ages 12 weeks and up, as we know that younger dogs tend to be more prone to bouts of diarrhoea. However, this food should only be fed to puppies after diagnosis and a recommendation for a similar recipe/prescription food from your vet.

My dog has pancreatitis, can they have this food?

For dogs with pancreatitis, it is generally recommended that they stick to a low-fat dog food, to help prevent future flare ups. Foods should contain less than 18% fat, and some vets will recommend diets containing less than 10% fat for dogs who seem very sensitive to dietary fat or who’ve had severe pancreatitis episodes in the past. Our gastrointestinal food contains 15% fat, so is potentially appropriate for those with pancreatitis, depending on what your vet has recommended.

How long should I give my dog this food for?

The duration will depend on your dog's medical needs. Those with acute bouts of diarrhoea should be fed this diet for 1-7 days. For more chronic GI issues, we recommend giving this diet for a period of 12 weeks.

What sort of signs does this food help with?

This diet is especially good for bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting as well as flatulence and bloating. This is also an appropriate diet for patients with chronic GI disorders such as IBD and SIBO.

What is the benefit of being grain-free?

For dogs with a grain allergy or sensitivity, it is vital they are fed a completely grain free diet. Otherwise, they can be prone to ongoing issues affecting both their gastrointestinal health and their skin. Grains do not form a natural part of the canine diet and as a result, many dogs struggle to digest grains. Intolerance to grains can manifest in many ways such as digestive discomfort, itchy skin and sub-optimal health.
