WHAT IS THE BEST DIET FOR DOGS WITH GASTROINTESTINAL ISSUES?
A gastrointestinal food is one that supports a dog’s digestive health when they are experiencing a gastrointestinal disorder. This can include a bout of diarrhoea or bloating, or it could be the case of a dog with a chronic underlying medical issue such as a malabsorption disorder. This is also an appropriate diet for patients with chronic GI disorders such as EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency), IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth).
These foods are highly digestible and provide optimal nutrition, to support the gut cells as they heal. The better gastrointestinal foods will contain both pre and probiotics, to ensure a healthy colony of bacteria is retained within the gut. Probiotics have also been proven to shorten the duration of acute bouts of diarrhoea, so your pooch is feeling better sooner.
